About

The DJ Toolbox

I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent hours (sometimes days!) in the past trawling through the net to try and find unbiased reviews of the latest DJ or production gear I’m thinking about buying. If I’m planning to spend a reasonable sum of money (and sometimes even when it’s only a few notes), I like to get several different opinions about the good and bad points of whatever it is I’m considering investing my hard earned cash in. Attempting to get past all the shopping comparison sites and other dross that fills up the search results pages can drive you crazy in the end, and it always seemed a shame to me that no one else, or at least only a few close friends, got to benefit from what I eventually managed to dig up. So that’s why I decided to create The DJ Toolbox.

The idea behind the site is simple. I scour the web for reviews on one piece of DJ equipment or another, and when I’ve eventually read enough to give a balanced overview, I write one and post it for the world to see. Of course my own thoughts are thrown in for good measure too! This is obviously not scientific, but it’s fair to say that I’m a bit of an obsessive person so my research is pretty thorough. From review sites to magazines to forums, I read them all in search of that one piece of vital information missed out by everyone else. Hopefully the results will save you some time (giving me the warm fuzzy feeling that I might have been at least a little bit useful). You’re the judge of that though, so please let me know what you think by sending me a message.

I also try to keep up with all the latest DJ gear news, and when there’s something I think people might be interested in, I’ll be writing about that as well. If you want to be updated when I publish a news story or DJ equipment review, please subscribe to my RSS feed.

Me

I started DJing back in 94 on a set of very rickety old turntables that I borrowed from one of my mates. Soon after I got my own decks – made by Ariston of all people (it’s a long story!), and not too bad as belt driven decks go. Sold these on a few months later, got myself a set of Technics, and I was hooked. Although I never managed to rise to the dizzy heights of the professional DJ, I did play at parties and events. It’s definitely fair to say that I’ve had a lot of fun over the years spinning tunes. And, although you’re more likely to find me trying to crank out some beats with Reason these days, I still like to keep up-to-date with all the latest developments in DJ technology.

I hope you enjoy the site.
