Aluminum and stainless steel. Portable. 12 square inches. Velcro. I know what you’re thinking and no, it’s not the latest gadget from Germany that’s causing Hugh Heffner to drool. It’s Stanton’s almighty Überstand.

I don’t know exactly how to pronounce it and frankly I don’t care, because Stanton has built one heck of an accessory for the DJ. When you want a piece of equipment that is built to protect your DJ gear you think brand names such as Odyssey and Road Ready but now when you think of a laptop stand go straight to Stanton. I have to admit that this product may actually outlive me and the rest of my DJ equipment.

Its design is clever and the materials that Stanton have used are solid. The frame and shelf are constructed out of aircraft grade aluminum, and the ledge for cradling your baby as well as its supporting legs are made of forged stainless steel. You can tell that Stanton listened to its users – every hole is etched using plasma cutting for precision and accuracy. It would be no surprise if all this metal meant getting snagged somewhere, but fortunately the Überstand has no sharp edges waiting to take off your left pinky (which is useful for most scratching endeavors). Finally the shelf. A perfect addition, whether you wish to put your external HD, a scratch-box or your grandma, it’s there. Simply slip it into one of the three available shelving mounts and voila! As a side note, you can purchase an extra shelf or two if you found the need to include the rest of your family in you setup.

Ingenious Velcro strips and plastic ties are included in the Überstand’s neat package. The Velcro strips keep your equipment from smashing to the floor and slandering your DJ name, and the plastic tie keeps the stand that holds your laptop from toppling.

The Stanton Überstand is one versatile bad boy. You’re a mobile DJ? Great! Space and weight considerations are important to you - the Überstand folds flat and stows away in a neat 12” carry case weighing no more than 2 pounds. You’re a club DJ? Even better! We know you’re going to be standing for hours, so don’t be hunched over looking for that perfect tune just to become frustrated and play the club remix of “Your Heart will go on” (we know how that’s going to end) the Überstand stands tall at just over 12 inches which means that you just need to look forward when you’re selecting tunes. You’re a consumer? Fabulous! At about 80 bucks you’ll be pleasantly surprised that it didn’t cost you a limb!

All in all, I think the Überstand is everyone’s idea of money well spent, and if I had to find one thing to gripe about I’d be stumped. If Stanton were to be floated on the stock market, I think the Überstand is one of the products that would help their share price go through the roof.
