How to Drive Your Traktor - Richie Hawtin Style
Richie Hawtin is a magician. His live sets are a mind-blowing blend of sounds woven together to create unique compositions. How does he achieve such spellbinding results? By using cutting edge DJ software and controllers set up in his own unique way.
Richie gave a revealing interview about his current set up to Beatportal’s Industry Boy back in August.
It consists of an Allen & Heath Xone:92 mixer, two Xone:1D controllers, a laptop running Traktor 3, and another one running the latest version of Ableton Live. The two laptops are connected and synced up so that loops can be passed from one to the other for effects processing.
Native Instruments, the makers of Traktor, recently released some video tutorials in which Richie demonstrates how he uses his equipment to perform. The videos are promotional so unsurprisingly his use of Ableton Live is glossed over, but it’s still fascinating to see the master at work.
