Will DaScratch Start a Revolution?

Da Scratch. All black with circular pad, red LEDs and blue text.

Well I’m not sure about that, but it certainly seems impressive. Looking a bit like it might be Darth Vader’s TV remote, this new MIDI control surface is only a little bigger than a VHS tape. (For those of you that can still remember what one looks like!) The number of features Stanton has managed to pack in is quite amazing though.

The DaScratch, also known as the SCS.3d, is the latest edition to the Stanton Control System range for digital DJs. It’s a touch-pad style device that hooks up to your laptop via USB. Stanton reckon it can give you the equivalent control of two decks and a mixer, while also allowing you to navigate through all your audio files without using your mouse.

The DaRouter software that comes with the unit runs on Mac or PC and includes presets for working with Traktor or Serato. It can also be customized to control any DJ software that supports MIDI learn.

It should be in stores very soon, retailing at about 300 USD.

Full details are on Stanton’s site.
